PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide powder for an image display device capable of maintaining a stable image display state even when an image display panel is stored or used for a long time, and to provide the image display device. SOLUTION: As the powder used for the image display device performing image display by encapsulating the powder constituted of a particle group consisting of at least one kind of particles 5 and/or particles 6 having colors and static charge characteristics different from each other, between two opposing substrates 1 and 2 at least one of which is transparent and applying an electric field to the particle group, use is made of the particles 5 and/or the particles 6 consisting of semipermanent charged bodies having an internal space charge.
