PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame retardant resin composition which achieves flame retardancy of the resin while it does not emit harmful gases when it burns, retains optical transparency of its molded items, and can be recycled by adding an organopolysiloxane having a given structure to a synthetic resin containing an aromatic ring in its molecule. SOLUTION: This flame retardant resin composition comprises following (A) and (B). (A) is 100 pts. wt. of a synthetic resin containing an aromatic ring in its molecule. (B) is 0.1-10 pts. wt. of an organopolysiloxane which contains a phenyl group in its molecule as an essential substituent bonding to a silicon atom, contains a siloxane unit expressed as R<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP>SiO<SB>1/2</SB>(wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>, which can be the same or different, are each a 1-6C unsubstituted or substituted monovalent hydrocarbon group), contains a hydroxy group of less than 2 wt% each as alkoxy groups and Si-OH group, and has a weight average molecular weight of not more than 2,000.
