PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pyridine derivative useful as an intermediate for a medicine, an agrochemical, an electronic photoreceptor, a dye and the like. SOLUTION: The pyridylpyridine derivative represented by general formula (I) (wherein, R1 is a 2-20C alkyl group having a substituent, a substituted or unsubstituted aminomethyl group, a trifluoromethyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted thiomethyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted alkenyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted alkoxy group, a substituted or unsubstituted aryloxy group, a substituted carbonyl group, a substituted sulfonyl group, an unsubstituted or monosubstituted carbamoyl group, an unsubstituted or monosubstituted sulfamoyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted thiol group, an unsubstituted or monosubstituted amino group, a substituted carbonylamino group, a substituted or unsubstituted ureide group, a nitro group, a cyano group, a formyl group or an equivalent thereof, a iodine atom or a fluorine atom), or a salt thereof is provided.
