PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new 4,4"-di(hydroxyalkoxy)terphenyl compound hopeful of unconventionally improving performances including solubility to solvent and liquid crystalline property as a reactive raw material. SOLUTION: The new 4,4"-di(hydroxyalkoxy)terphenyl compound of the general formula 1( wherein, R' is a 1-4C alkyl; R is an alkyl; and n is an integer of 0-3 ) is obtained by reaction of a halogenated hydroxyalkyl compound with the corresponding 4,4"-dihydroxyterphenyl compound in the presence of an alkali.
