PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hard film coated tool improved in wear resistance and chipping resistance by suppressing separation and chipping of a hard film. SOLUTION: In this hard film coated tool, when the residual compressive stress of the hard film at a part near a cutting edge is madeσ<SB>A</SB>, 0 GPa≤σ<SB>A</SB>≤1.0 GPa is to be satisfied, and when the residual compressive stress of the hard film at the center part is madeσ<SB>B</SB>, 1.5 GPa≤σ<SB>B</SB>≤2.5 GPa is to be satisfied. The separation and chipping of the hard film is thereby suppressed to improve wear resistance and chipping resistance. It is preferable that the hard film in this case is a single layer or multilayer of at least one kind selected from group IVA, VA, VIA elements of the periodic table, and from carbide, nitride, oxide, boride of Si and Al, and their mutual solid solution.
