Output inductor current detector for DC-DC converter used in power supply of computer, printer

A current sensor (20) that has series circuit of resistor (R cs) and capacitor (C cs) is used to detect current passing through an output inductor. A control loop circuit (22) regulates switching of the switches (11,12) through a PWM circuit (16) based on output signal of the current sensor. The resistor and capacitor have respective values so that current sensor is used as instantaneous current sensor. The peak current level is set by a voltage regulation loop circuit (24) that has a voltage divider. An overload protection circuit (28) is connected to the current sensor. The time constant of inductance is set equal of time constant of resistor and capacitor of the current sensor. An independent claim is also included for DC-DC converter operation regulating method.
