A portable seat for small children has side-frames (2a, 2b) either side of a seat section (3) and adjustable backrest (4). The backrest pivots (12) on an adjustable fixture (18) which also serves as the anchorage point for a U-shaped carrying frame (17). The backrest is supported at the respective position by a transverse member (16) with locking fixtures. The portable seat has fixtures which allow for the installation of the seat in conjunction with automotive seat belts, and fixtures which engage with e.g. a buggy or perambulator frame.
