<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust control system of an internal combustion engine capable of suppressing NOx emission into the atmosphere through a NOx catalyst by reliably purifying NOx contained in the exhaust emitted from the internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: In the exhaust control system of the internal combustion engine in which occlusion-reduction type NOx catalyst having the NOx purifying capacity by the three-way function is provided in an exhaust passage, when it is determined that the purifying condition is established by occluding and reducing NOx in the NOx catalyst (S103, and S105), the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust is adjusted so that NOx in the exhaust is occluded and reduced by the NOx catalyst. When it is determined that the purifying condition is not established by occluding and reducing NOx in the NOx catalyst, the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust flowing into the NOx catalyst is adjusted stoichiometrically (S104 and S106). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
