PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera which can easily discriminate and switch the display direction of an acquired subject image. SOLUTION: The digital camera forms four types of thumbnail images rotated at each 90°together with the subject image at photographing time in a camera mode. The digital camera sequentially pop-up displays the four types of the thumbnail images on the subject image when the subject image is reproduced and displayed in a replay mode, and can be utilized to grasp the display content of the subject image. The digital camera selects the thumbnail image for displaying an erected image of the subject image from the pop-up displayed thumbnail images when the display direction of the subject image is not in the erected image state and can display a standard thumbnail image. The type of the selected standard thumbnail image is recorded as flag data. The flag data is referred at following subject image display time, and the subject image is rotated and displayed to match the standard thumbnail image. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
