The present invention refers to a coagulant and a process to obtain a ferrous polysulfate in aqueous solution resulting from a magnetite mineral that comprises (a) Mixing in a reactor: water having a cold electrolyte generated by the addition of a first amount of sulphuric acid and water, and magnetite mineral in excess; (b) Adding a second amount of industrial sulphuric acid; (c) Obtaining a solution containing from about 220 to 280g of iron per liter of solution, free acidity of 0%, basicity of from about 2% to 12.5% and pH of from about 0.2 to 1.0; (d) Filtering the solution obtained in step (c)at a high temperature of from about 80 degree to 100 degree C; (e) Applying an antioxidant to the filtered solution through the lower portion of a reactor that is opened at atmospheric pressure; and (f) Obtaining a ferrous polysulfate in aqueous solution having a concentration of ferric ion of at least 12.5%, ferrous ion lower than 4g/l, free acidity of 0%, basicity of from about 7% to 22% and pH of from about 0.5 to 1.8, but preferably of from about 0.8 to 1.6. |
