Compressor (3), especially for an internal combustion engine, comprises a compressor wheel (7) rotatably mounted in a compressor inlet channel (8) and compressing a gas to an increased boost pressure. A dead space (13) arranged in the flow region of the compressor wheel communicates exclusively with the compressor inlet channel via a connection opening adjacent to the wheel inlet edge (15) of the compressor wheel. An independent claim is also included for an exhaust gas turbocharger (1) comprising the above compressor. Preferred Features: The dead space and the connection opening are annular. The dead space is defined by a separate housing part (11) of the compressor housing (12).
