<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quicken the printing output of a first page after paper supply when paper to be fed is depleted. <P>SOLUTION: An original is read in such order as the front surface (front surface of 1) and the back surface (back surface of 1) of the first page, and the front surface (front surface of 2) and the back surface (back surface of 2) of a second page, and stored in an image memory. At the time of printing, the image of the back surface of 1 is written on a photoreceptor drum 1 and developed, and transferred to an intermediate transfer belt 10 and further transferred to an intermediate transfer belt 100. While such operation is performed, the image of the front surface of 1 is transferred to the belt 10 from the drum 1. The images of the front surface of 1 and the back surface of 1 on the belt 10 and the belt 100 are transferred to the front surface and the back surface of 1st recording paper 1. When a control part judges that the recording paper 2 to be fed is depleted in the midst of transferring the image to the recording paper 1, for example, it controls so that the image of the back surface of 2 formed on the belt 10 may be transferred and held on the belt 100.
