<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that can perform excellent image formation by preventing characteristic defects concerned with image formation of an image carrier and application defects of a transfer bias. <P>SOLUTION: A transfer means of transferring images formed on image carriers 3 (3a to 3d) to a transfer medium is equipped with transfer members 6 (6a to 6d) which press the transfer medium against the image carriers 3 to apply a high voltage and high-voltage power units A, B, C, and D which apply the high voltage to the transfer members. Further, the transfer means is placed in operation to apply the high voltage to the transfer members 6 even when the transfer medium is not present between the image carriers 3 and transfer members 6, and a control part is provided which controls the timing wherein the transfer means is operated in response to the rotation starting operation of the image carriers 3 according to the surface potentials of the image carriers 3. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
