PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a zinc tungstate single crystal which, when used as a single crystal for a scintillator detector, exhibits an enhanced luminous intensity in radiating X-rays or the like. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the zinc tungstate single crystal, zinc oxide and tungsten trioxide, as raw materials, are mixed, charged into a crucible, melted, and subjected to seeding and growth, provided that tungsten trioxide is mixed in an amount higher than its stoichiometric ratio to zinc oxide.
