IMAGE DECODING METHOD AND DEVICE FOR CARRYING OUT SAID METHOD

The inventive method for decoding a digital image consists in generating a second image having size RXm x RYm on the basis of data set resulting from the encoding of a first image having size RX1 x RY1. Said data set consists of one or several data sub-sets, each sub-set resulting from a conversion by conducting a reversible conversion, with or without loss, of said first image and making it possible to restore the encoded sub-image of the first image by the inverted conversion thereof. Said method also involves the stages for substituting (31) information having size RX1 x Ry1 by information having size RXmx RYm in said data set and afterwards, for decoding (34) each of the thus modified data sub-sets by using said inverted conversion. A device for carrying out the inventive method, in particular for an image display device is also disclosed.
