Resin is introduced into the prepared repair area using vacuum. Reinforcing material(3) and, if necessary, a replacement sandwich core section(5), are located in the preprepared repair position. A gel coat corresponding to the original surface shape is positioned over the repair point in a vacuum tool(6) which corresponds to the original surface and surrounds the repair area. Vacuum is then applied to draw resin into the reinforcement and no emissions are released into the atmosphere. Metallic or other reinforcement can be incorporated in the repair.
