Diesel combustion engine has a combustion chamber with a glow plug whose temperature is dependent on its electrical resistance and which is at least indirectly exposed to the temperature of the combustion chamber and a fuel system for delivery of variable fuel amounts to the combustion chamber, whereby the fuel system is matched to the electrical resistance of the glow plug or a signal corresponding to its electrical resistance. Independent claims are also included for the following:- (a) a diesel combustion engine in which the fuel supply rate to the combustion chamber is matched to the electrical resistance of the heating element and; (b) an electronic control unit for a combustion engine.
