The gear shift device has a return device (8) for the gear shift lever (3). This device is connected to the gear shift lever in the manual path (7) up to a turning axis. It can be selectively mounted on wither side of the lever. After the cable lever (1) has been turned,, it is possible to position the manual path on either side of the gear shift.
