PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drying apparatus capable of preventing the adhesion of a resin and having a wide variable range of operation capacity, and its operating method. SOLUTION: The drying apparatus 10 is equipped with a crystallizing hopper 12 and a drying hopper 14, and a hollow shaft member 22 is arranged vertically in the crystallizing hopper 12. Hot air is supplied to the shaft member 22 to be blown into the crystallizing hopper 12 from the lower end of the shaft member 22. Heat insulating treatment is applied to the shaft member 22 to thermally cut off the interior of the shaft member 22 from the outside. The angle of inclination of the inclined surface 22B formed to the lower end of the shaft member 22 is made same to that of the inclined surface 12B of the crystallizing hopper 12.
