PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extremely industrially advantageous method for manufacturing a metal- or ceramics-containing foamed sintered compact by which the foamed sintered compact of open cell type having a high degree of foaming and high porosity can be manufactured even in the case where difficult-to-work materials such as ceramics, not to mention a wide range of metals, are used as a raw material. SOLUTION: A mixture containing a metal or ceramic powder, high-viscosity aqueous polymer solution and a foaming agent is foamed under reduced pressure, freezed and then freeze-dried, followed by sintering.
