PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially advantageous method enabling mass production by remarkably accelerating acid hydrolysis reaction in the step of hydrolyzing a pulp cellulose with a mineral acid to prepare a powdered cellulose. SOLUTION: In the step of producing the powdered cellulose by acid-hydrolyzing the pulp cellulose with the mineral acid, before or simultaneously with the acid hydrolysis reaction, the pulp cellulose is treated with ozone generated from an ozone generator or an ozone exhaust gas discharged from a pulp bleaching stage.
