PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeding device adapted to various kinds and sizes of recording mediums and being handled comparatively easily and inexpensively, and a recording device. SOLUTION: This paper feeding device has a paper feeding tray 3 which is a first recording medium loading part and a sub-paper feeding tray 7 which is provided at a paper feeding possible position and becomes a second recording medium loading part and has a paper kind sensor 4 which can detect kind of recording mediums loaded in both of the first and second loading parts. Consequently, it is possible to detect kind of recording mediums loaded in a plurality of recordng medium loading parts by one paper kind sensor 4 to correspond to various kinds and sizes of recording mediums automatically by a comparatively simple configuration.
