PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bacteriostatic agent for daily dishes exerting antibacterial action on heat-resistant bacteria in foods containing starch or proteins, especially in daily dishes, capable of suppressing the growth of heat-resistant bacteria after heat sterilization, and affecting neither flavor nor taste of daily dishes. SOLUTION: The bacteriostatic agent for food comprises as the essential ingredient(s) (1) a sucrose fatty acid ester≥13 in HLB number, (2) lysozyme and (3) one or more compounds selected from amino acids, organic acids and organic acid salts, preferably glycine and/or sodium acetate.
