<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device capable of adding animation display in a new mode without unnecessarily increasing the capacity of a ROM. <P>SOLUTION: A display control part 30 of the image display device comprises a display control processor part 31 for selecting the display mode of an animated image in a liquid crystal display (LCD) 35 based on a command from a main control part 20, a video display processor (VDP) part 33 for preparing picture drawing data to display the selected display mode in the LCD 35, and a character ROM 340 for involatilely storing a plurality of basic image data to be used in preparing the picture drawing data.
