PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting method capable of shortening a rising period of a high-pressure discharge lamp. SOLUTION: Insulation of the high-pressure discharge lamp is broken by impressing high voltage pulse on it, and afterwards, whether the lamp voltage exceeds 25 V or not is judged at a step S1. If the lamp voltage does not exceed 25V (step S1: NO), a constant current control of setting a current limit level at 6A is applied (step S2), and if the lamp voltage exceeds 25V (step S1: YES), it is switched to the constant current control of setting the current limit level at 4A (step S3). When the lamp voltage rises up to 50V (step S4: YES), the constant power control is applied so that the lamp power becomes 200W (step 5). COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
