1294576 Liquefied gas storage tanks CHICAGO BRIDGE & IRON CO 6 Oct 1970 [10 Oct 1969] 47520/70 Heading F4P A heat insulated liquefied gas storage tank has a metal canopy 21 extending inwardly and upwardly from the upper part of the side wall 17 and terminating adjacent the outer periphery of an insulated ceiling 31 suspended from a sloping metal roof 15, to increase the capacity of the tank, the space between the canopy 21 and the roof 15 being filled with insulating material. The canopy 21 is connected to the ceiling 31 by a flexible membrane 36 to allow for expansion and contraction. The insulation preferably takes the form of glass fibre blankets 19, 38, and granular material 20, 35, 39. The canopy 21 may be straight, or curved, Fig. 3 (not shown) in section, or may comprise a horizontal portion connected to a vertical portion, Fig. 4 (not shown). In the construction of Fig. 5 (not shown), the tank has a single side wall which is externally insulated by foamed in place polyurethane covered by a vapour barrier, e.g. sheet aluminium. |
