<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which performs forcible development in order to prevent the phenomenon in which when toner images of low image density are continuously formed, developer in a developing device stays for a long period of time and degrades in attraction to images, which results in image deterioration. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has a photoreceptor on which an electrostatic latent image is formed and held, an electrostatic latent image forming means which forms an electrostatic latent image on the photoreceptor, and the developing device which develops the electrostatic latent image. The image forming apparatus has a mode in which developer from the developing device is forcibly consumed in an area other than an area for forming output images based on image signals and the developer forcibly consumed on the photoreceptor thereafter is conveyed to a specific area by a cleaning means. In the mode, the time for which the developer after a developing operation is conveyed to the specific area is made longer than the time for which the developing operation is carried out so that the developer is forcibly consumed onto the photoreceptor from the developing device. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
