PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication method that is advantageous for both a system and a user in easily confirming their legitimacy mutually. SOLUTION: When the user is authenticated by the system 10, first subsidiary data A1 corresponding to an identification data ID is specified by the system, and first and second original data O1, O2 are restored on the basis of the specified first subsidiary data A1 and second subsidiary data A2 stored in a terminal 12. An image of a password PW and an image of image data for visual recognition are displayed according to the restored first and second original data O1, O2. When the password PW shown by the image of the password PW is input to the terminal 12, a password sent from the terminal to the system is compared with the password PW registered in the PW system 10 to perform authentication.
