PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing hydroxy group-containing polymer particles, which is inexpensive without requiring a specific raw material and a monomer containing a reactive functional group as found in a conventional method for producing hydroxy group-containing particles and is highly safe and by which a complicated operation is not needed, the amount of hydroxy group is readily controlled and no functional group having adverse effect on particle physical properties remains. SOLUTION: The method for producing hydroxy group-containing particles comprises reacting crosslinked polymer particles containing a (meth)acrylate polymer represented by general formula (I) with one or more kinds selected from a compound containing at least two hydroxy groups and a compound containing at least one amino group and at least one hydroxy group in the presence of a metal-containing catalyst for a transesterification reaction.
