PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rear side alarm device capable of performing a proper alarm operation by precisely detecting an obstacle existing in the neighborhood of a present vehicle with a simple configuration and reducing its cost. SOLUTION: The rear side alarm device detects that an obstacle deviates from the visual field range of a camera 21, and observes the luminance change of a vertical edge face in an image to be picked up when the obstacle deviates from the visual field range of the camera 21, and predicts the location of the obstacle beyond the visual field range of the camera 21 based on the observation result. Thus, after the overall obstacle deviates from the visual field range of the camera 21, the back side alarm device predicts the location of the obstacle without detecting the obstacle by any image processing.
