A method of transferring a data file (2) from a service provider (1) to a mobile communications device (5) comprises the steps of splitting the file into first and second parts (A and B), transmitting the first and second file parts over respective first and second communications routes (3 and 4) from the service provider to the mobile communications device, and reassembling the file from the first and second file parts at the mobile communications device.
