<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a checking method for enhancing the capability to identify the kind of an image recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: A paper tray 14 of the image forming apparatus 10 is also loaded with information recording paper 54, which is provided by being attached to a paper bundle 50, from a supplier along with the paper bundle 50. In the apparatus 10, an identification code 52A and a feature information group 52B are read and pre-registered as paper information 52 from the recording paper 54 by using a bar code reader 60 and a code scanner 62. When print processing is performed by the apparatus 10, at least either of a state of a surface of paper 16 and a state of unevenness in the thickness of the paper 16 is detected from the paper 16 for actual use in print by means of a paper sensor 72, and the result of this detection is compared with each piece of the feature information in the information group 52B which is registered in a paper information memory 74BA, so that the paper 16 for use in the print can be identified. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
