The data bus system, especially a controller area network (CAN) bus system has a number of bus members joined to one or more data buses. Localized bus members (T1, T2) are joined together as a group with a shared physical signal conditioning element (A1.1, A2.1) which supplies the bus members with a physically conditioned signal and or transfers the signals from the bus members to the bus system after appropriate conditioning. An independent claim is also included for use of the inventive data bus system in a motor vehicle with an ignition lock module (1) and data bus control module (2) connected to a shared physical signal conditioner.
