<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a SBS suppressor capable of suppressing occurrence of the SBS with a simple structure to thereby enable an upper limit of signal optical power launched to an optical transmission path to be considerably increased. <P>SOLUTION: The SBS suppressor 10 is equipped with an optical amplifier 11 for amplifying signal light, and a spectrum width expanding optical fiber 12 for expanding a spectrum width of the signal light amplified in the optical amplifier 11 by SPM to output the signal light to the optical fiber transmission path. The SPM is a type of a nonlinear phenomenon generated in cases where signal optical intensity gets higher than a certain value and thereby the spectrum width increases. On the contrary, the SBS is a type of a nonlinear phenomenon generated in cases where the signal optical intensity per unit frequency becomes higher than a certain value and thereby incident power on the optical fiber transmission path is limited. By expanding the optical spectrum width of the signal itself by using the SPM, the signal light intensity per the unit frequency decreases as a while, so that the SBS is suppressed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
