PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device of an internal combustion engine capable of effectively suppressing generation of knocking while increasing the output of the engine. SOLUTION: An engine 1 to perform fuel injection in a compression stroke by using super-high pressure fuel generates disturbance in fuel spray to be injected in a combustion chamber 2, and adjusts the timing of attenuation of the disturbance through adjustment of the fuel injection timing. Ignition is performed at the timing when the fuel spray is in an adequately disturbed state, and the knocking sensitivity is minimized thereby. Since the knocking sensitivity is minimized, the actual ignition timing is brought close to the ignition timing corresponding to the maximum value of the generated torque.
