PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a defect detecting apparatus capable of detecting a defective pixel transparently for a user. SOLUTION: On the occasion of photographing a still image, when exposure has been completed and a light blocking device 12b enters in operating state, a signal received by an imaging device 13 is once supplied to a defect correction unit 17 via an A/D converter 14. At this time, the defect correction unit 17 corrects a defective pixel based on information for a location of the defective pixel stored at a defect memory 16, and outputs the result to a camera signal processing unit 18. Then, since the imaging device 13 is in the status that light does not enter by the light blocking device 12b, all black images are photographed in the meantime, and the images are outputted to a defect detection unit 15. The defect detection unit 15 executes white defective pixel detection processing using the all black images and stores information for the pixel location of the defective pixel detected in the defect memory 16.
