PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new norstatine derivative useful as a production intermediate for medicines, e.g. an HIV protease inhibitor, bestatin or taxiol which is an anticancer agent or a renin inhibitor. SOLUTION: The norstatine derivative is represented by general formula (I) (wherein, R1and R2denote each a≤3C alkoxy group or R1and R2may mutually form a ring; R3and R4denote each a hydrogen atom, a benzyl group which may have a substituent, a≤4C lower acyl group, a≤14C alkoxycarbonyl group or a≤14C aralkyloxy group which may have a substituent or a benzoyl group or a benzenesulfonyl group which may have a substituent or R3and R4may mutually form a ring; R5denotes a hydrogen atom or a≤4C lower acyl group; and R6denotes a hydrogen atom, a≤4C lower alkyl group or a≤14C aralkyl group) or its salt.
