Perinatal hypoxic-ischemic brain damage is alleviated by administration to a newborn mammalian patient, or to the mother prior to delivery, of a composition of matter comprising pharmaceutically acceptable bodies such as liposomes, carrying phosphate-glycerol surface groups.
