DITHERING METHOD AND DITHERING APPARATUS FOR REPRESENTING ENTIRE GRAY SCALES BY PREVENTING SATURATION WITHIN GRAY SCALE REGION HAVING HIGH LUMINANCE

PURPOSE: A dithering method and a dithering apparatus are provided to remove flicker by mirroring in a method for temporal and spatial compensation and represent entire gray scales by preventing saturation within a gray scale region with high luminance. CONSTITUTION: A selection process is performed to select a frame on which dithering is performed(S10). A filtering process is performed to filter M-bit video signals according to two or more frame group conditions in order to represent the M-bit video signals as gray scales having M-N-bit data(S20). A data conversion process is performed to set upper M-N-bit data of the filtered M-bit data as basic gray scale values(S30). A dither matrix is selected to perform a dithering operation within the frame(S40). A temporal/spatial compensation process on the selected dither matrix is performed by using lower N-bits data(S50).
