PURPOSE: A method for processing caption data in an image region is provided to remove a white dot line showing an upper end of a screen when erroneous caption data are inserted, thereby displaying an image with better quality more than a previous image. CONSTITUTION: A display device with an under-scan method has an image region divided vertical blanking period(1) and an active region(2). Caption data existing in the image region is searched by a caption slicing method. When the found caption data exist the outside of the vertical blanking period region, a control member discriminates that the caption data are erroneous. All lines of the active region are processed by black until the line of the erroneous caption data. The line processing is performed by a black line generator.
