A process for distilling a metal from a molten mixture of metals by flowing the melt down a spiral channel, having upwardly projecting ridges in the base thereof which are covered by the melt and serve to create turbulence therein and to reduce the rate of flow thereof down the channel to give a smooth surface thereto and to reduce splashing, the channel being located in a vacuum vessel. The apparatus comprises a spiral channel the outer edge of which is formed by or attached to the cylindrical or frusto-conical backing plate which thus supports the spiral in the vacuum chamber.</p> |
