[Also in Divisions A4 and F2] A connecting member 20 for connecting tubular members 75 comprises a base portion 21 and an resilient insert portion having two substantially parallel prongs 22 each formed with a flange 23 terminating to define partly a threaded bore 25. The prongs 22 form a cross-sectional envelope slightly bigger than the internal cross-section of a said tubular member, and being resilient can be pressed towards each other to enable the entry of the insert member into a tube 75 whereby ribs 29 on the prongs press against the inner walls of 75. The member 20 so inserted is secured by means of screws 84 through openings 77a to engage in the tapped bore 25. The base 21 of the member 20 is formed with'an aperture to enable securing the other member 75 by means of a screw 80 engaging a nut member (82, Fig. 8, not shown). A modified connecting member 60, (Fig. 11) has two insert portions 62 adapted to engage tubes 75a which are mitre-cut to be assembled at right angles. A further modification (Fig. 3, not shown) joins two tubes at an obtuse angle. A third member 71 (76) can be connected to the structure so formed by using a second connecting member 20 as shown in Fig. 13. The connecting members of the embodiment are made of aluminium. A constructional unit of tubular members may be assembled using the connecting members of the invention for use in architectural designs, erecting partitions, furniture assembly and other fields of interior decorating. |
