A telescopic rod (35, 43) is pivotally connected to the support frame (1) at one end and pivotally connected at the other end to one of the rods (11) forming a parallel guide for height adjustment of the seat (15) and backrest (16). The drive system is connected to the telescopic rod so that by altering the length of this rod, the rods forming the parallel guide can be rotated. The support frame is mounted on wheels (6, 7) and the seat and backrest are supported on an auxiliary frame (2). The parallel guide is formed by two rods on opposite sides of the chair, which are pivotally connected to the support frame at one end and to the auxiliary frame at the other end. The height of the auxiliary frame is altered by rotating the parallel guide rods.
