PURPOSE: A device and a method for system security of a portable computer using backlight power are provided to efficiently and simply control system security operation by making a microcomputer or an embedded controller of the portable computer restrict key input of user, and cut off the backlight power of an LCD. CONSTITUTION: The microcomputer(3) selectively sets or releases a system security mode of the portable computer depending on a preset specified key value and restricts the key input of the user in the system security mode. An LED(Light Emitting Diode) on/off logic(9) cuts off or supplies the power applied to the backlight of the LCD depending on setting/release of the system security mode.
