1335374 Vibratory finishing C K WALTHER [trading as CARL KURT WALTHER GmbH & CO KG] 3 Nov 1970 [15 Nov 1969] 52334/70 Heading B3D A vibratory scouring tank comprises a helical channel 8 for receiving articles to be treated and a treating agent, the tank contents, during operation, being urged to move along a helical path from a lower channel end wall 11 to an upper channel end B from which the contents can slide downwardly along a sloping wall 12 connecting the upper channel end to the upper end of the lower channel end wall, the sloping wall sloping downwardly in both an axial and a radially inward direction relative to the helical channel. The helical channel may be in the form of a tube coil or upwardly open channel and is mounted on a plate 7 carried by coil springs 9 from a base-plate 10. The channel is vibrated by eccentric members 4 on a drive-shaft 5. The lower end A of the channel has the end wall 11 which is substantially in line with the axis of the channel, and the sloping wall 12 connects the upper end of the wall 11 to a shoulder 13 at the upper end B of the channel. The wall reduces the impact of the articles when they drop from the upper to the lower end of the channel. When treating is completed, a sieve 18 hinged to a pivot 25 can be lowered so that its end 31 engages the shoulder 13 and the articles pass along the sieve to be ejected, the treating agent falling back to the lower end of the channel. The sieve is moved about the pivot by a toggle linkage 34, 35 actuated by a pressure cylinder 38. The sieve has side walls 23, 24 provided with chamfered jaws 41, 42 which engage jaws 39, 40 on the side walls of the channel to releasably secure the sieve in its upper position. The workpieces may be cleaned by spraying nozzles 44. |
