METHOD FOR ASSIGNING A REVERSE TRAFFIC CHANNEL DURING A HANDOFF IN A CDMA COMMUNICATION SYSTEM, SPECIALLY WITH REGARDS TO ASSIGNING PLURAL REVERSE TRAFFIC CHANNELS IN A TARGET BASE STATION, SO AS TO INCREASE THE PROBABILITY OF OBTAINING A TERMINAL

PURPOSE: A method for assigning a reverse traffic channel during a handoff in a CDMA communication system is provided to assign plural reverse traffic channels having different search center offsets and different search window sizes in a target base station during a soft/hard handoff, thereby increasing the probability of obtaining a terminal. CONSTITUTION: When a handoff is requested from a control station, a modem of a target base station sets an RTD(Round Trip Delay) value received from a serving base station as a search center offset, and sets a searching area wider than a reference searching area in consideration of an error of the RTD value(S1). The modem divides the searching area into plural sub areas, and assigns reverse traffic channels(S2). The modem monitors the reverse traffic channels, and confirms whether a terminal is obtained(S3). If so, the modem releases the rest traffic channels except a reverse traffic channel which obtains the terminal(S4).
