PURPOSE: A device and method for detecting belt breakage in dryer and a method for controlling the dryer by using the same are provided to simplify the part and to prevent clothes from being damaged due to operation of a heater in stopping a drum by operating the dryer only in a normal state of a belt after detecting breakage of a belt by a contactless method. CONSTITUTION: A device for detecting belt breakage in a dryer is composed of a motor(7) coupled to a motor driving power source; a motor operation switch(8) for turning on or off the power applied on the motor; a microcomputer(9) for controlling the motor operating switch; and a photo-sensor(10) for detecting and transmitting back electromotive force of the motor to the microcomputer. If a belt is broken down in an initial operation step of the dryer, the device for detecting the belt breakage displays letters or signals on a display window or outputs a warning sound to a user while the motor operation switch is turned off. |
