The invention aims at preventing a clutch as a frictional engagement element from being damaged and ensuring a driver of the operation feeling even if an accelerator pedal is depressed when an automatic transmission is shifted from its driven state to its non-driven state. If a neutral position has been selected and if an accelerator has been depressed, an ECT_ECU performs normal control before the elapsed time since selection of the neutral position exceeds a first threshold and until the elapsed time since the turning-on of the accelerator exceeds a second threshold. If the elapsed time since the turning-on of the accelerator exceeds the second threshold, the ECT_ECU executes a program including the regulation of throttle opening.
