An exhaust gas recirculation system (210) for an internal combustion engine (212), the internal combustion engine (212) including an intake manifold (226) and an exhaust manifold (224), comprising: a heat exchanger (218) having an inlet end and an outlet end, the inlet end of said heat exchanger (218) being connected to the exhaust manifold (224); a filter (220) having an inlet end and an outlet end, the inlet end of said filter (220) being connected to the outlet end of said heat exchanger (218); a first valve (214) having an inlet end and an outlet end, the inlet end being connected to the outlet end of said filter (220); and a valve control system (222) connected to said first valve (214) for selectively opening and closing said first valve (214), wherein cooled and filtered exhaust gases are recirculated into the intake manifold (226) when said first valve (214) is open. <IMAGE> |
