PURPOSE: A key input apparatus and method using an optical sensor are provided to reduce the number of parts by reading a coordinate of a position covered by a user and recognizing a selected character or number. CONSTITUTION: The first optical source(110) is paired with the first optical sensor(210), the second optical source(120) is paired with a corresponding sensor(211) and an optical sensor(112) is paired with a corresponding sensor(212). The second optical source(120) is paired with the second optical sensor(220). The second optical source(121) is paired with the second optical sensor(221). The second optical source(122) is paired with the second optical sensor(222). The first optical source(123) is paired with the second optical sensor(223). The first optical source(124) is paired with the second optical sensor(224).
